Bow Waters Canoe Club--Instructor Needed
The Bow Waters Canoe Club is a non-profit organization that offers an extensive canoe tour schedule, rentals to members, and a quality lessons program. The Lessons Program serves the Calgary and Alberta region through four initiatives: Adult lessons, Group lessons (schools, scouts, guides etc.), Youth summer canoe camps and Equipment rentals. We stress safe canoe instruction in courses ranging from Basic Flatwater to Introductory, Intermediate and Solo River. For more information about the club, check out our web site: www.bowwaters.org.
Applications are now being accepted for the position of Canoe Instructor – FOR SEPTEMBER 2008.
Duties:
- instruction and evaluation for Group Lessons at various skill levels and locations
- responsible for equipment inventory management, and as required, lesson planning, maintenance of equipment and facilities
Qualifications:
- excellent interpersonal skills: interact with students and the public in a professional manner, under all conditions
- river paddling experience preferred, flatwater experience only also accepted
- current certification in Standard First Aid/CPR
- ARCA Tandem & Solo River Instructor certification. Flatwater certification also welcome
- instruction/leadership experience with youth and adults in an outdoor setting
- valid drivers license; a clean driving record and light trailer towing experience would be an asset
- able to provide a current police record check
- low-impact tripping skills would be an asset
- experience with Voyageur canoes would be an asset
- Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross or Lifeguard certification would be an asset
- other certifications that would be an asset, include:
- CRCA Canoe Tripping Instructor
- CRCA Moving Water Instructor – Level I & II
- Swift Water Rescue
- Wilderness First Aid
- Class 4 Drivers License
Employment Terms:
Part-time positions are available for September, beginning September 08. Morning and afternoon courses available. Amount of hours depends on your availability.
Rate of pay to be based on experience/qualifications: starting at $18.00/hour

White Water Kayak Instructors Required

The Rocky Mountain Paddling Centre has been involved in the Calgary paddling community for over 16 years, providing expert instruction for kayakers and canoeists. Applications are now being accepted for the position of White Water Kayak Instructor. Duties:
- Instruct White Water Kayaking to a group of no more than 6 adults on the Kananaskis River, the Bow River and potentially the Red Deer River for the duration of a 5 day course.
- Prepare breakfast, supper and a bagged lunch for participants. Do not be scared off from the position if you do not like cooking or think you are not good at it. It is your responsibility that everyone is well fed, but the participants are well aware that they will be delegated tasks such as lighting the stove, chopping wood, starting the fire, chopping veggies, stirring and watching the pot. You are not expected to serve or cater… Everyone works together!
- Driving the van, participants and boats from the Willow Rock Campground to the river.
Qualifications:
- excellent interpersonal skills
- current certification in Standard First Aid/CPR
- Paddle Canada River Kayaking I or II Instructor certification
- excellent leadership skills in an outdoor setting
- valid drivers license
- ability to take on full responsibility of leading an excellent program with out supervision
Employment Terms:
Thursday July 31st –Monday August 4th. Five full days including overnight camping at a campground.
Wage is $250 per day. Please call even if you can just instruct for one or two of the five days!
